The shock of it,
a cold plunge.
The thievery of breath;
the shivers of the heart.
You gasp.
Will you drown as
deep calls to deep?
A slow fade,
a sinking,
a series of smothered dreams.
Visions of what was,
terrors of what is,
fear of what is to come.
You’d cry out but
who would hear?
Who could care?
You’ve been cast down,
downcast.
Still, the sun shines,
a spotlight,
cascading through ripples,
if only you’d look up.
It’s then that you recall,
down in the deep,
”the lamp is the Lamb.”
The sun is the Son.
The One
who was,
and is,
and is to come.

Steadfast Devotional through Well-Watered Women
I printed this piece (the two page spread version with its cursive title running up its side) and it now sits, displayed, after being laminated, on my office "word wall". It's a place I plan to feature quotes, shorts pieces, special inspirations, and wise words. I'm a deep appreciator of, not only the beauty of words, but moreso, the beauty of truth that can be reflected through words. You did a stunningly great job of that, in this piece, Brittany.
Joy to you! nj
That's really beautiful, Brittany. I LOVE your 2 page spread of it (cursive and regular print) that also landed in my inbox today.
It's "layout beauty" helps to bring the majesty of the poem and it's message out even more.
I hope you do a book one day, with Christ-treasuring poems, in that kind of an artistic layout. I will be the first to buy it.
Bless you!
